I finally got the rest of our garden in this week! We're a little behind in planting season, but we're crossing our fingers that it'll all work out anyways.
The one plant that is essential to a garden is a tomato plant. There is nothing more delicious than a chunky red tomato grown on your own tomato plant. The Toad and the Brain would disagree. They stay far far away from tomatoes. They lead a sad life with the absence of tomatoes. My poor sister and her husband.
I digress.
Every year we plant two types of tomato plants. One grape/cherry plant and one for big hearty sandwich making (as per T's request).
This year I went with one grape tomato plant. I love biting into the oblong shape over the roundness of a cherry tomato. And salads! They're perfect in salads!
We've never tried growing the Red Beefsteak tomato yet, but we're excited to see how this bad boy does in the garden. The name itself suggests delicious sandwiches in the future. I can just taste those BLT's now...
Along with tomatoes, we got the beans and squash in also. We planted the peas in late March and they are absolutely thriving. They're at least 3 feet tall now and still growing!
Now if only they could all be ready by tomorrow. I hate the waiting game. Especially when it comes to delicious food.
Here's to impatiently patiently waiting til harvesting season...
