Grandpa Kussee and Some New Kicks

Today these walked through my classroom door in the hands of one of the cutest 8 year olds you could ever meet.  It was even specially wrapped in wrapping paper that she'd decorated and came with an adorable little note.  It was one of those sentimental gifts you don't want to open because it was wrapped so cute.

Oh how I'm going to miss these little monsters of mine.

The fact that an 8 year old would remember my likes and that her mom would help her follow out such a special gift for her teacher is special.

I've told my students that just giving me a TOMS box with nothing in it would make me the happiest the teacher on earth.

This time, there were actual shoes in the box.  And they were beautiful...

These lovelies will be on my size 6 1/2 feet tomorrow morning.   It almost makes a girl get excited to get up in the morning.

Almost.

My classroom also got a special visitor today.  Grandpa Kussee came to present on his experiences with working as an engineer at NASA and on the Apollo missions.  Among the many things he did, he was the one who designed the toothpaste that the astronauts could swallow and not get sick from.  He also created the shuttle glass "windshield" to protect it from the numerous nicks and cracks that the shuttle would encounter on it's way through space.

Coolest grandpa ever?  Oh yeah.

 {Grandpa Kussee brought all of his pictures and presented a slideshow to our class.}

Grandpa and Grandma Kussee brought in some special astronaut freeze-dried bananas and peaches for our class to try.  The majority of our class loved the peaches the best.  The bananas weren't bad either!

Pretty much a really awesome teaching day.  Tyler came to watch Grandpa's presentation and oh how I wish I would've remembered to get a picture of him and grandma there too!  I also forgot the camera's battery at home this morning.  Good thing T had his phone to take pictures with.

I even had time for a nice little run while my cute little husband finished up a yummy dinner.

Happy LAST Monday of the school year!
